I am in love with all the characters in the Layer's series and don't want it to come to an end, but of all the smartly written books in this series, I loved this installment the most. I tend to avoid series as I am prone to forgetting too many salient details between volumes, but that was not a problem for me here as Ms. Alexander's writing is exquisite and more than memorable. Her plot lines are lively, fun, entertaining, deliciously steamy, yet also insightful and moving. I tend to devour her books as I cannot seem to put them down or read them fast enough, although I also want to savor the sparkling dialogs infused with clever humor and witty banter. She has mad skills and I want to read every word she ever puts on a page. God to be Logan girl....

Ahh so said to see this series end. I've been following this series for some time now and although I'm sad to see it come to a close, I'm so glad that Samantha got to tell her story.

If you have been following along this series ( which you totally should btw) then you know our baby girl Samantha has not always had it easy, and then you get that devastating news at the end of book 3 and its just like * drops the mic, and walk off" done! I was just a mess to say the least. But after dealing with her emotions she still can't seem to get herself together and escapes to the beach. Atta girl! I'd do the same damn thing, Sam. All a women needs is the beach, a cute bikini and some drink, and by some I mean none ending, of course. And what does our girl Sam see as she takes in her new home away from home? Oh, but a sexy sexy man running by not one but twice a day. Oooo and is this man something to behold!!

Enter Logan Romano, the sexy as sin hockey player who is getting back into shape for his new team, the New York Rangers!! I don't know what it is but athletes are so hot, and hockey players at that?!? Wowza!!! I think it's all that rage and having the ok to rough each other up on the ice * dreamy sigh*.... Annnnnywhoo don't get me start on Mr. Romano cause I just won't stop and then I'll have to excuse myself for some ... Ok and we are moving on.

But, as we all know when somethings too good to be true, somebodies got to rock the boat and then bam mommy and daddy are fighting again. But what fun would it be if we didn't have a little chase, and groveling?? About as much as a limp noodle, and we all know it ain't much fun. Plus how can we enjoy the sweet, dirty, hot, amazingly wicked things that come out of Logan's mouth with out some angst? Yeah, you'e right, we would of eaten it up either way. God, and that epilogue?? Loved it!!

I really enjoyed this authors writing and I won't be stopping just because this series is over, she is just too awesome! I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to become a puck bunny for a sexy, overbearingly, hot jealous alpha hockey stud.

I received this for an honest review.. I have to say that just like the others I just loved this book and this series!!!

I was pulled right into this story just like the other ones and am comletely in love with this whole story!! I am super sad that this is the last book in the series since this is one series that I enjoyed sooooo much.. I cant wait to see what comes next for this author.

The Vietnam War was and still is, next to the Civil War, one of the most divisive wars in U.S. history. By looking at the key decision makers on both sides, Langguth chronicles why the outcome was inevitable. In the U.S., there was an outgoing beloved president who warned against a "military-industrial" complex that could influence foreign policy through costly investments in winless conflicts. It was a warning that went unheeded. Into office came a young president elected by the narrowest of margins who found himself deferring to the "wisdom" of elder statesmen, many of whom still retained the view of the U.S. as an invincible power. Finally, there was an old-line former Senate leader swept into the Oval Office because of an assassination's bullet. On the other side, there was Ho Chi Minh, the quiet revolutionary, and Diem, a corrupt leader backed by the U.S., who handled his opposition by silencing them with such weapons as a resurrected guillotine. This book may be compared somewhat to David Halberstam's The Best and the Brightest, but it is unique in its perspective of the major players on both sides and is reinforced by newly released documents and the interviews Langguth undertook to sort through detail by detail where everything went so wrong in our war, our Vietnam. Nothing new; bloated and trivial

A quick litmus test for the accuracy and even-handedness of Vietnam War books is to compare the author's treatment of the massacre of 3,000-5,000 innocent Vietnamese civilians (teachers, religious figures, etc.) by the NVA and VC in Hue during the Tet Offensive with the treatment of the My Lai massacre where several hundred innocents were killed. One was a deliberate official act (the NVA and VC were given lists of names and addresses to target prepared by their intelligence people) and the other an aberration (every two-bit Seymour Hersh wanna be has been looking for other US Army massacres since 1969 and finding only dry wells) which was investigated and punished. Langguth fails this test miserably, misinterpreting both events. His fly-on-the-wall attempts to reconstruct insider politics doesn't come across credibly either. It is particularly shameful that he abruptly ends his book in May 1975 ingnoring the Cambodian holocaust, the Vietnamese boat people and other tragic consequences of his reporting. (I spent a year in Vietnam as an Army officer in 1968-69 and four years doing aid work in Cambodia in 1996-2000 so I have seen it firsthand). This book is just more tired, establishment press late hits and piling on...save the trees and buy "Stolen Valor" instead.

Detailed narration of war

This book is a must-read for anyone wanting an in-depth history/ chronology of the Vietnam war. It's primarily a political history, documenting the motivations and actions of leaders and those who advised them, and then how those decisions played out on the ground.
One early event from the book is telling: in May 1962, McNamara was making his first trip to Vietnam for a detailed briefing on the situation, particularly on Communist strength. There were, in fact, an estimated 40,000 in local Communist battalions and identifiable guerrilla units. His briefers tightened their criteria, and reduced that to 20,000 - 25,000. THAT number had to be reduced, and was cut to 17,500. By the time McNamara arrived in Vietnam, he was told the number was 16,305. The night before the briefing, the colonel doing the briefing removed one-third of "enemy-controlled areas" from McNamara's briefing map.
This book details not only how our government deceived the public, but also itself -- and goes into the motivations of the South Vietnamese, North Vietnamese, and their relations with China, Soviet Union, and the French.

I do not see "lack of analysis" as a fault of this book, as a previous reviewer did. The book does a great job of presenting what each actor said, wrote, and did -- in plenty of detail so that the reader can think for him/herself. For instance, Langguth spells out exactly how Jack Kennedy SAID privately that he was planning on pulling out of Vietnam in his second term. Would that have happened? Would it have been prevented by Congress, and the need for conservatives' support on domestic issues? Did Kennedy really mean what he said? That's all interesting, but it's essentially speculation outside the scope of the book.
I do think the book would have benefited from somehow presenting an overview of the war along with the detailed "novel" approach, which trusts the reader with independent knowledge of the war. Also, the binding in my library copy was weak.

Power and failure

This work shows exactly how the United states gradually became involved in Vietnam from the details on up. Other reviews have commented on Langguth's objectivity and accuracy. I will mention the most lasting impression this book left on me:
Most of us have the perception that the great men of power throughout history are made of something different from ourselves. We only see them on the world's stage, made up and prepared; speeches rehearsed; ceremony and station lending gravity to their every word and action. We don't think of them sleepless; with a bit of popcorn stuck in their teeth; complaining to their wives; or any of the other everyday situations that even these men of power experience. And so we assume their minds are always bent to grand designs. We think they hold a certain wisdom that lets them maneuver through politics and war, making decisions based on facts or morality.
Langguth's tale tells a different story. Decisions that cost tens of thousands of lives and reshape the world are made by men as sweaty and itchy as you and I. Wars are started because of ego, petty squabbles, and job security. Elections! How many have died so that one man could keep his job? So we see Kennedy and Johnson and Nixon, and all the well-dressed men around them, chewing their lips and eyeing one and other with mistrust, stabbing one and other in the back, lying and cheating, making mistakes.
Wars are started all because we make the mistake of investing such power in mere humans.

An American Mystic! This book is about a man’s journey “through many dangers, toils and snares...” to an awakening that both astonished and surprised him.
This is a man who worked for the FBI, Army Intelligence, an Arthur Murray dance instructor, a Napoleon Hill “Think And Grow Rich” trainer, divinity student, and the consummate entrepreneur. He lived life to the hilt, exploring its pleasures and pains.
It offers a rich comparison of how the life of ego-mind identification need not negate the journey of awakening; rather, it can both complement that journey and be a fecund opportunity to grow into a spiritual adult who is awake to realizing who he truly is.
The book is well written, moves quickly, and is rife with photographs, rich content and valuable insights. It not about The Path to awakening; rather, it is about A Path. The path of an American Mystic, Five stars!

A wonderful book sharing A. Ramana's life

I only met Ramana once so this is a great way to know him and to share in his story. I've only read about half and look forward to the rest of the story. It's an important story because he helped so many. Even if you didn't know him, you will feel as though you do when you read his memoirs. And if you knew him well, you will enjoy the memories.

I give this 4 1/2 stars

I really enjoyed the story of Ramana, who what Texan that became enlightened, this story spans from him being a child to his death. I really appreciated the honesty given in this book, in which helps one to feel that we all start at the same place even though it might look different. This was a long book but well worth reading, and I'll definitely be reading it again, it has so much insight at times, you feel like you are there with Ramana, by the end of the book I felt like I had met him, spent time with him, he sounds like a wonderful being. I wish there was a bit more personal stuff about Ramana's interactions in India as opposed to so much information on India. But otherwise a very satisfying read, and if you are in anyway interested in learning about someone who is enlightened I think you should pick up this book. Reading about Ramana touched me deeply.

I've always been buffeted by circumstances because I thought of myself as a human being [affected by] outside conditioning. Now I realize that I am the power that commands the feeling of my mind and from which circumstances grow.

About the Author
MARY BERRY is Britain's favourite baker and the much-loved judge on the BBC's The Great British Bake Off. This is a really useful cookery book packed with delicious recipes for all occasions. The directions are clear and really foolproof and all the extra tips and ingredient explanations most useful. I have many cookery books but this one is a joy to cook from.

Delicious Recipes From Mary

'The Great English Baking Show' on PBS, was such a fun show to watch. My family loved all of the contestants and in particular, the Judges, Mary and Paul. We were entranced with the baking, and since I collect cookbooks, I looked for a cookbook authored by Mary Berry.

This cookbook came out in 2014, and Mary tells us a little about her life in the opening chapter. She talks about the foods she likes to cook and bake, with a synopsis of what the cookbook entails. There are 320 pages and the cookbook, itself is very well edited. Each chapter has several photos of the foods covered. I was disappointed that each food recipe did not have it's own photo. Mary gives us an idea of what she feels should be in every pantry. She discusses herbs, spices, vinegars, the types of sugars, pastas, mustards in her home. What you can freeze, and the opportunity to freeze meals. Menu planning and how much to cook covers several pages.

Nine chapters follow, covering Canapés, Starters, Family Favorites, Spectacular Suppers, A Classic Roast, Vegetables and Salads, Cold Desserts, Hot Puddings, and Afternoon Tea. She finishes with a Conversion Table, which would have been better served for me placed in the beginning.

All of the recipes are written in the metric version, and the English standards. Oven temps are in Celcius, recipe ingredients are in grams and millimeters. It is a shame the U.S. has not converted to the Metric system as the rest of the world. The other issue for some would be the types of foods used in the UK. They eat a lot of lamb, venison, potted shrimp, minced meat and other various and sundry foods. However, most of the ingredients can be found. Another disappointment was the lack of baked desserts. I would have liked to see more sponge cakes, breads and other pastries as seen in the English Baking Show.

Mary Berry does not assume that I know the best way to assemble and cut my tea sandwiches and that's what I really enjoyed about this book. It was like having an aunt who says, "by the way..." She discusses all kinds of things like Harissa and acorn fed pigs. Loved it!
